Exploring our fibrous roots searching for nourishment to unlock the source of our powers that have been suffocated over the years by the roots of others. Each year as the growth ring expands we drift further from our terrain. As the world revolves we unravel and fray as the cord of life is tested. Look within the keyhole it showing the light. It is neither beginning nor end it is the now.
Purple, fearful red and calming blue bring balance in a spinning world. The key is to look within with non-judgmental eyes. Grow downward reaching up to the sky and you will hold the key.
Red rocks turn the hand of the universe utilities unleashed. Close your eyes and feel the unknown. The wind and water …the feeling of solitude. You base your reality from what is said, what is told, what is assume and what is accepted. Turn off the fan and turn off the faucet relax and ponder the world. The red rocks of home and the heat of the unknown
Water can cool and refresh you …it can also scald you. The wind, cool and dry cracking the landscape. You look over your shoulder and notice that the past is not who you are now. Red rocks cold water, cool breeze…solitude.
This well used “white” towel represents every painting that I have created in the studio this year. It contains every color I mixed, every tone and every shade.
It maybe an old towel, but it is marked by each and every footprint of where I have traveled along my journey.
The images (front/back) below shows what a year of learning about myself through painting looks like for me.
75 day till the end of the year… This means that I have 75 days or 1800 hours to finish everything that I want to accomplish this year.
This year I have been able to explore many things, some of which I never thought I would be able to achieve.
My personal goal was to add an additional six shows to my list of exhibits. Currently I have been able to add nine… and with the time left I would like to be able to add an additional three. I would like to be able to say that on an average I had one show per month this year.
I have been able to create eight new paintings, with two new ones currently on the easels.
I taught seven Calligraphy Classes and one more coming up in December.
I work a full time day job.
I try to have a social life.
Sleep and Eat…
So with this in mind I need to figure out what my expectations are for the remainder of the year and come up with a game plan for next year, my goals, dreams and ways that I can continue to work towards them.
I have accomplished more this year than I thought was possible, but with this knowledge it makes me curious what I can achieve if I expand my horizons just a little bit more. I am learning how to use my time a little more efficiently and push myself just a bit more. At times this is difficult and overwhelming, but if I do not try to push beyond my comfort zone… how can I ever really know what I can truly archive.
So I add the image as a warning…
‘Stuff” is happening in the studio… “Exciting Stuff”
One of the greatest things about being an artist is being able to spend time with other artist and compare ideas and techniques. The sharing of creative energy is contagious and helps to feed the mind and soul of an artist.
October is Artists Month in Chicago http://www.chicagoartistsmonth.org/about. So not only have I been able to participate in many of the shows in the Chicago area… I have also enjoyed seeing some amazing art and interacting with the artist, sharing ideas and asking many questions about their approach to their art. I learned so many new things and I can’t wait to try them out in the studio.
I also have learned that people have many different ideas of who can and can’t be an artist. I find this confusing because I view everyone one as a creative being. I had one women tell me this weekend that she loves to look at the artwork because she is not very creative. But yet she tells me that she is an accountant and is able to work with numbers in a creative ways that I could never be able to manage to do. So in my mind she is every bit of an artist as well. “Art Making” can take on many different forms. It could be the artful way you prepare a meal or how creatively you make a schedule for a business project. Everything that we do is creative and based out of creative energy; it allows us the opportunity to breathe life into something that never existed before.
I started teaching a session of Calligraphy with a new group of students. One of the things that I love about teaching is that each group is different and each individual has a different manner in which they can learn the easiest and most effectively. It is part of my mission to figure out what that method is. I have a range of people who fall between being very conceptual to the ones that are very fact/ data based. To be able to connect with each individual I have to use different language to share the same information. This just proves that there are many ways to get to the same goal. You just need to find the one that works best for you and that learning something new is never out of your reach, you just need to fine tune the approach a bit to get the best outcome,
What ways in your life are you able to express your creative energy, what do you find passion in? When you are trying to learn something new, it is easier for you to read about it, listen to spoken word, or to look at pictures?
Maybe a combination of several methods?
This is a very busy time for me. I am in involved in four shows this weekend.
I am also teaching a Calligraphy Class on Sunday afternoon…and working my full time job 🙂
