Posted below are several of the pieces that I am exploring concepts of how to take something that is 2-D and push it into the beginning stages of an installation and/ or a inter-sensory experience for the viewer.
I am using 140 lb watercolor paper and the image is the result of a reverse print of a plastic commercial cake tray that black etching ink has been applied to the surface and the paper is placed on top and pushed into the template to create the hexagon shapes.
Each one of the hexagon shapes is punctured and a random length of black yarn has been fed through that opening, allowing it to be seen from both sides of the paper.
These are just one set of the series. There are several others. I am still experimenting with different colors of yarn and different placement and lengths.
